The French Press is a sophisticated but surprisingly simple way to brew your favorite coffee at home. With this method, you’ll get a full bodied and heavy cup but with changes to your ratio and time, you can easily alter the brew to find what suits your taste.
What you’ll need:
- French Press
- Kettle
- Freshly ground coffee
- Scale
- Timer
Step One:
After removing the filter and plunger, you will add 1 scoop or 12 grams of ground coffee to your French Press. Whether you grind your coffee at home or if your local barista grinds it for you, you will want it ground on the coarsest setting.
Step Two:
Bring your water to a temperature just below boiling ( about 205°F). Then slowly add 7oz or 192 grams of hot water over your coffee grounds. You can put the lid back on at this point, but be careful not to prematurely filter your coffee. The plunger should be at the highest position.
Step Three:
Steep for 4 minutes then slowly push down the plunger on the top of the French Press. This will lower the filter, separating the grounds from your coffee.
Step Four:
Enjoy! It’s as easy as that.
Remember, all of these measurements can be changed, depending on the amount of coffee you need but we do recommend that you stick to the ratio of 1:16 (coffee to water). This is the sweet spot for the perfect cup of coffee!
